MLS

Major League Soccer (MLS), the top-tier professional football league in the United States and Canada, was founded in 1993 and began its inaugural season in 1996. Initially formed to help the country prepare for the 1994 FIFA World Cup, MLS has evolved into a prominent force in North American sports. With 29 teams(26 in the U.S. and 3 in Canada), MLS has gained significant recognition and attracts growing international attention.

In recent years, MLS has made strides in both on-field competition and off-field growth. Clubs like LA Galaxy, Atlanta United, and Seattle Sounders have enjoyed success in the league, setting new standards for fan engagement and attendance. Teams compete in two conferences— Eastern and Western —and the league concludes its season with playoffs, culminating in the MLS Cup.

A key moment in the league's history occurred in 2023, when Lionel Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time, joined Inter Miami CF. Messi's arrival marked a new chapter for MLS, significantly raising its global profile. His signing was a monumental shift in the league’s reputation, attracting fans and media attention worldwide. Messi, who had previously played for FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, brought his incredible talent, vision, and leadership to MLS, inspiring the growth of the sport in North America.

MLS continues to focus on developing young talent through its Academy System, alongside its efforts to attract world-class international players like Messi. With expanding infrastructure and continued investment, MLS is positioned for even greater growth and global recognition in the coming years.
